This teaching is instructive in understanding the life of Daniel. He was taken as a captive to Babylon. He had no political connection. No family influence, no wealth and title. Everything was taken away from him. But he understood that, when you control your environment, you can also control your value.

Daniel chose excellence, discipline and character. He refused to compromise his values, while others were only trying to survive in their captivity. Daniel was building capacity in the midst of adversity. Daniel 1:20. He was found ten times better than others. This is marketability and relevance.

How to make yourself relevant in your generation

  1. Observe the law of honour.
  2. Observe the law of relationship
  3. Observe the law of competence. Dan 1:20. Competency is spiritual. Anointing without skill produces embarrassment.
  4. Observe the law of character. Prov. 22:1. A good name is better than riches. Cultivate and exhibit Godly character. Character sustains opportunity. Talent opens doors, but integrity keeps them open. Bad character keeps them close.
  5. Observe the law of diligence. Prov. 22:29. Diligence is about going beyond the minimum effort. Hard working people create values that attract favour. Lazy people pray alone for miracles. Sometimes God delays breakthroughs because we lack the capacity to carry it.
  6. Observe the law of gratitude.
  7. Observe the law of the ability to solve difficult problems. You cannot be marketable outside your assignment. Gen.41:39; Esther 4:14.

What problems angers me? What burdens keep my passion alive? What do people naturally come to me for? This determines your relevance if you can pay attention to it.

Practical ways/dimensions of marketability

  1. Upgrade your knowledge. Keep developing yourself. You cannot operate with outdated knowledge.
  2. If you cannot express value, you cannot sell value.
  3. Determine to deliver consistent results.Don’t be a seasonal performer.
  4. Be faithful, because it builds brands

Things that make one irrelevant

  1. Pride
  2. Laziness
  3. Fear of starting small
  4. Inconsistency
